Two people have been seriously wounded in two separate shark attacks while swimming in the Sea of Japan off Russia’s Far Eastern coast.
In incidents that local experts said had no historical precedent in the area, a 25-year-old man was attacked by a shark on Wednesday, while a 16-year-old boy was mauled by a shark on Thursday.
In the first attack, a tourist named as Denis Udovenko was attacked while swimming with his wife in a marine nature reserve and reportedly tried to wrestle with the shark in order to buy time for his wife to swim to safety.
The shark bit both of his arms off from the elbow down however and he is reported to be in a serious condition in hospital.
